Day 5
Wednesday, January 05, 2011Since my new friend Jessica is only in Germany for a few weeks, she wanted to pack as much traveling in as possible. Her boyfriend had to work during the day so we made a plan to drive to Munich and have some girl time while doing some sightseeing, shopping, and Glühwein tasting.

We woke up early and began our two hour drive to Munich on this very cold (25 degrees Fahrenheit) but very beautiful winter day. We parked in a car garage underneath a hotel and walked around for hours just taking pictures and looking at all the shops along the way.
| Glockenspiel |
We made it just in time to see the Glockenspiel at 5:00p.m. and we even entered the Cathedral of Our Dear Lady and lit candles for military service members and their families.
We stopped for lunch and both enjoyed a Döner kebab. Döner kebab is a traditional Turkish dish made from meat roasted vertically on a spit. It is closely related to Greek gyros and other traditional spit-roasted meats from around the Mediterranean and Middle East. In addition to being abundant street food in Turkey, döner kebab can be found in nations all over the world with large Turkish populations, especially Germany and Great Britain. In these countries, döner kebab has acquired its own unique flavorings and twists, mingling native and Turkish tastes.

Later in the afternoon we shared a warm crepe filled with Nutella. Both of these treats were so fresh and warm, just what we needed on this chilly day.

After a lot more sightseeing and shopping for Souvenirs, we were ready for dinner and a hot glass of Glühwein. Jessica had been wanting some real German food so we finally found her some Bratwurst with Sauer Kraut and I tried a pork steak sandwich; they were both so juicy and delicious.

We found an outdoor ice skating rink and watched people skate as we ate our German meals before heading back home to Stuttgart. We had the best time on this trip and I really feel like we seized the day!
